Landscaping Services in Oshkosh, WI
Oshkosh covers more ground than most cities its size, and the properties in it vary just as much. There are the deep lots and tall old homes on the west side, built when the lumber money was good.
There's water nearly everywhere - Lake Winnebago on one side, the Fox River running straight through the middle, and Butte des Morts to the northwest. There are newer subdivisions on the edges of town, a university neighborhood full of rentals, and a commercial corridor that sees serious traffic every summer.
Decker Landscape & Design handles landscaping across all of it. We install new lawns, clear yards and haul off leaves, lay rock and mulch, build hardscape and softscape features, plan and plant gardens, trim bushes, and take care of mowing and season-long lawn care.

Custom Landscaping Services
Looking to build something rather than just keep up with what's there? Our Oshkosh crew takes on custom projects for residential and commercial properties across the city.
That covers patios and outdoor living spaces, fire pit areas, stone pathways and front entries, retaining and seating walls, tiered beds on sloped or lakeside lots, shoreline and exposure-tolerant plantings, privacy screening, and complete landscape redesigns for older properties. Tell us what you've got in mind and we'll map out what it takes to get there.

Lakefront & Riverfront Properties
Water frontage is why a lot of people live in Oshkosh. It also puts a yard up against conditions an inland lot never deals with.
-
Open water means open exposure. Lake Winnebago is big enough to generate real wind and wave action, and a shoreline lot takes it without much shelter. Plants that do fine three blocks inland can get battered on an exposed bank. Tough, wind-tolerant choices hold up far better than anything delicate.
-
Spring can be rough on a shoreline. Ice movement at breakup can push against banks, damage plantings, and shift anything sitting near the water's edge. It's worth walking a lakefront property each spring to see what came through and what needs replacing before the season gets going.
-
Roots hold a bank better than turf does. Mowed grass running right to the water has shallow roots and doesn't do much to keep a bank in place. Deeper-rooted shrubs and perennials along the edge hold soil, slow runoff before it reaches the water, and look better than an eroding lip of lawn.
-
Check before you clear or dig near the water. Work close to a shoreline can fall under city and state rules, and anything involving the bank itself or below the water line may require DNR involvement. Confirm what applies with the City of Oshkosh and the Wisconsin DNR before vegetation comes out or ground gets moved. We're happy to plan a project around whatever's required.
-
You can have the view and the buffer. A shoreline planting doesn't need to be a hedge. A low, well-placed buffer with a cleared sight line and a defined path to the water gives you both - and it's a better-looking solution than bare bank.

Oshkosh Landscaping FAQs
The whole city - the west side, the north side, the neighborhoods along the river, the lakefront, and newer development on the edges of town. We also work Neenah, Menasha, and north through the Fox Valley. Not sure if we come as far as your street? Just ask.
Yes, and the answer to the second part is earlier than most people think. Late winter or early spring is the right time to get on the calendar for work you want finished before the show. The weeks immediately before AirVenture are the busiest of our year, and by June there's not much room left.
A cleanup, fresh mulch, recut bed edges, and replacing anything dead near the front entry. That package costs less than people expect and it changes how a property photographs, which matters when guests are choosing from listings.
Wind-tolerant, deep-rooted plants. Exposure is the deciding factor on a Winnebago shoreline far more than hardiness zone is, and the right choices vary depending on how open your particular stretch is. We'll look at the site before recommending anything, because two lakefront lots a quarter mile apart can face very different conditions.
Usually with a walk-through and a plan rather than a shovel. Large older properties tend to need a few different things at once, and sorting out the order saves money - there's no sense putting in new beds before the grade or the overgrown plantings are dealt with. We'll lay out what to tackle first and what can wait.
We do. Mowing and lawn care, bed maintenance, rock and mulch, seasonal cleanups, and hardscape installation for businesses around Oshkosh, on a one-time or season-long basis.
Both. Plenty of our work is a single project or a one-off cleanup, and there's no requirement to sign up for anything recurring. If ongoing care makes sense for your property, we'll say so, but it's your call.
